This week, Jinx welcomes Scott Foy back to the show! A writer and reviewer who’s written for such websites as Ain’t It Cool News, Creature Corner, and Dread Central, Mr. Foy (aka “The Foywonder”) discusses Hajime Sato’s 1966 horror/sci-fi/superhero masterpiece Golden Bat for this week’s ep.
With its beautiful black and white photography, fun action sequences, and the astonishing level of utter lunacy on display, Golden Bat inspired a conversation which covers the film’s zany plot and comic book origins, its should-be iconic hero, and the film’s sad lack of availability here in the US.
Along the way, Foy and Jinx discuss the Japanese worldview of wabi-sabi, the other attempts to bring Golden Bat to screens big and small, and quite possibly the most disturbing series of superhero movies ever (…ugh).
It’s a helluva fun chat with a great guest about an underloved gem, and it’s one we hope you enjoy!
