The Autopsy of Jane Doe with Chanthaly/Dearest Sister director Mattie Do
This week on Scream Addicts, Jinx welcomes Mattie Do to the show! The first female director of a feature film in Laos (the 2012 horror film Chanthaly), Ms. Do has chosen André Øvredal’s 2016 supernatural horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe for discussion this week.
With its alternately grim and playful tone, sharp screenplay, and likable characters, Autopsy inspires a discussion which touches on the film’s rollercoaster nature, its wonderful performances, and the movie’s ever-present dread. Along the way, we discuss the director’s mastery of jump scares, the film’s downbeat ending, and Ms. Do’s own interest in telling supernatural tales.
It’s a fantastic conversation with a wonderful guest, and it’s one we hope you enjoy!
Be sure to check out Ms. Do’s newest horror film Dearest Sister (which has been submitted as Laos’ first entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards) over at shudder.com
